We are a growing organisation and we are lucky to have enthusiastic members who care about the challenges facing the Wyre Forest District. Becoming a member of Wyre Forest CLT is important because the membership base of the CLT is what truly makes it community-led. Legally a CLT must be:
Owned by the Community
Run by the Community
For the benefit of that geographical Community
Not for personal profit
Wyre Forest CLT is established as a Community Benefit Society with Charitable Aims. A Community Benefit Society is defined by its membership and each member pays £1 to have a ‘share’ in the CLT itself. By having a share and being a member :
You increase the influence we can have locally
You can benefit from WFCLT activities / projects
You will have a vote at meetings
You are part of a democratic process
You can put yourself forward as a Board Member
It is important to keep in mind that your £1 share is not the same as buying shares in a company:
They cannot grow in value
They cannot be sold
It is not a way of saving money
If you decide to stop being a Member, you may not be able to get your £1 share back
The shares are not backed by any compensation scheme or an ombudsman
